Currency Converter (INR base, 30 currencies)
Convert between the Indian Rupee and 29 major world currencies β US Dollar, Euro, Pound, UAE Dirham, Saudi Riyal, Singapore Dollar, Yen, Yuan, Australian and Canadian Dollars, Gulf currencies (QAR, KWD, BHD, OMR) and neighbouring currencies (LKR, BDT, NPR, PKR). Rates are fetched live from a public exchange-rate API, stored in your browser for one hour to keep the tool fast, and if the network is unavailable an embedded set of approximate rates is used with a clear "rates as of" note.
How conversion works
All rates are held relative to INR. To convert amount A from currency X to Y: Result = A Γ· rate(X per INR) Γ rate(Y per INR). Example: if 1 INR = 0.0117 USD and 1 INR = 0.0429 AED, then 1,000 USD = 1,000 Γ· 0.0117 Γ 0.0429 β 3,667 AED.
Worked example
Convert 1,000 USD to INR at 1 USD = βΉ85.50 β βΉ85,500, shown in words as "Rupees Eighty Five Thousand Five Hundred Only" for use on vouchers. The table below the result shows the same amount in ten popular currencies at once.
Important: mid-market vs. bank rates
Converters show the mid-market rate β the midpoint between buy and sell. Banks, card networks and remittance apps add a spread (typically 0.5%β3%) and, in India, GST on the currency-conversion service charge (slab-based: 0.18% of the amount up to βΉ1 lakh, etc.). For accounting, RBI reference rates or the customs notified rates are often prescribed; use this tool for estimates, reconciliation checks and quick quotations.
Useful for
- Exporters and freelancers estimating INR receipts from foreign invoices.
- Importers checking landed cost before customs duty.
- NRIs and remitters comparing offers against the live rate.
- Booking foreign-currency transactions in books (use RBI/bank rate for the final entry).
Caching and privacy
The rate table is saved in your browser only; no amounts you type are sent anywhere. Because rates are cached for an hour, repeat conversions are instant and work on a flaky mobile connection.
Frequently Asked Questions
How fresh are the rates?
Live rates are fetched when you open the tool and cached for 60 minutes. Click "Refresh rates" to force an update.
What if the live rate fails to load?
The tool falls back to embedded approximate rates and clearly labels the result "Offline (approx.)" with the as-of date.
Why does my bank give a different rate?
Banks apply a margin over the mid-market rate plus GST on conversion charges, so the realised rate is always slightly worse.
Which rate should I use in accounts?
Ind AS 21 / AS 11 require the exchange rate on the transaction date; most firms use the RBI reference rate or their bank's card rate.
