Apne PiP Player

Free · No account · Chrome & Edge

Keep the video. Use the rest of your screen.

Apne PiP Player is a picture-in-picture extension for Chrome and Edge. It lifts any video out of the page into a floating window that stays on top of everything else, and the full controls travel with it: speed, volume boost, subtitles, notes and a sleep timer.

Free. Works in Chrome and Edge 116 or newer. No account, no ads, and nothing sent anywhere unless you switch it on.

Three ways to pop a video out

Whichever one fits your hands. The video keeps playing through the move, and goes back to the page when you are done.

  1. Hover the video

A small control bar appears over it. Click Pop out. The same bar also changes speed and takes a screenshot without opening anything.

  2. Click the toolbar icon

Useful when the video is further down the page, or when the site hides its own controls. The icon shows ON while a pop-up is running.

  3. Press Alt+P

Press it again to send the video back to the tab. If the page holds more than one video, you get a picker instead of a guess.

What you get in the window

A browser's own picture-in-picture gives you play, pause and close. This one carries the whole player with it.

Speed and volume
0.25x to 4x, and volume up to 300% for recordings that were quiet to begin with.
Subtitles
Captions render inside the pop-up, where most browsers drop them.
A-B loop
Mark a start and an end to repeat one passage until you have it.
Notes with timestamps
Write a note while you watch. Click it later and the video jumps back to that second.
Screenshots
One click saves the current frame to your Downloads folder.
Sleep timer
Stops playback after 15 to 90 minutes, for when you watch in bed.

What people use it for

The same idea — keep the video in view while you get on with something else — fits a lot of days.

Watch while you work
Keep a match, a stream or a long video playing in the corner while you type in a spreadsheet, answer email or fill a form.
Follow a lecture or tutorial
Float the video beside your editor or notebook, slow it to 0.75x, loop the line you missed, and keep a timestamped transcript you can search.
Two videos at once
Chrome allows one pop-up window, so this one holds up to four in a grid — two camera angles, a match beside its commentary, or a call beside a screen share.
Watch on YouTube and most sites
It works on ordinary HTML5 video across the web, including YouTube, with the controls drawn inside the window rather than left behind in the tab.

A look at it

The picture-in-picture pop-up showing a progress bar, play controls, speed set to 1.5x, volume at 160%, subtitles and buttons for loop, timer, screenshot and notes.
Every control sits in the pop-up, so you never go back to the tab to change something.

Hover a video and the bar appears.
The Apne Player page with a playlist of local video files and a Play in pop-up button.
Your own files and folders play the same way.

It also plays what is not on a website

Apne Player, built into the extension, opens from the toolbar icon.

Your own files
Drop in video or audio files, or a whole folder, and they play as a playlist. The next one starts by itself.
Any app window
Pick a window, a browser tab or your whole screen, and watch it live in the pop-up while you work in something else.
Your camera
Keep a small webcam window in the corner while you record or present.

Put it on your toolbar

Install takes about a minute, and the extension starts working on the pages you already have open.
