Questions people ask
If yours is not here, write to us and it probably will be.
Is it free?
Yes, and there is nothing to buy later. No account, no sign-in, no ads.
Does it work on every website?
On almost all of them. The extension looks for the video element on the page, which covers YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, news sites, course platforms and videos embedded in blogs.
A video embedded inside another site opens in Chrome's simple pop-up rather than the full-control one. That is Chrome's rule, not a gap in the extension.
Why is the picture black on Netflix or Prime Video?
Those services protect their video, and the protection does not always survive the move into a custom window. Open the settings page and switch the pop-up type to Chrome's simple pop-up. The picture comes back, with Chrome's own smaller set of controls.
Why can I not go above 100% volume here?
Volume boost needs the browser's permission to read the audio, and some sites serve audio in a way that keeps it sealed. Where that happens the slider stops at 100%. On YouTube and on your own local files, the boost works.
Can I open two pop-ups at once?
No. Chrome allows one picture-in-picture window at a time, for every extension and for Chrome itself.
Do the shortcuts work when Chrome is minimised?
Play, pause and the two seek shortcuts do, once you mark them Global at chrome://extensions/shortcuts. That is what makes them useful while you are in a spreadsheet. The others work while Chrome is in front.
Where do my notes and screenshots go?
Screenshots are saved to Downloads/Apne PiP as PNG files. Notes stay inside the extension, on your own computer. The settings page lists them all and can export them as a text file.
Does it send anything anywhere?
Not unless you ask it to. Nothing is sent anywhere by default: your settings, notes, saved speeds and resume positions live in your browser's own storage. Settings has two switches, both off, that send anonymous counts of which features get used and a report when something breaks — no addresses, no video titles, no notes. The privacy policy says exactly what each one sends.
Why does it ask for access to all websites?
Because a video can be on any site, and the extension has to find it on the page you are watching in order to show the control bar and move the video out. It reads nothing else and sends nothing anywhere.
Can I play files from my own computer?
Yes. Right-click the toolbar icon and open Apne Player. Drag in files or pick a folder, and they play as a playlist. Keep that tab open; it can sit in the background.
Does it work in Microsoft Edge?
Yes. Edge runs Chrome extensions, and version 116 or newer has everything the extension needs.
Does it work on a phone?
No. Chrome on Android and iOS does not run extensions. This is for a desktop or laptop browser.
