Everything it does
The pop-up carries a full player, the extension gets out of your way when you want it to, and a second player handles what is not on a website.
In the pop-up window
- Seek and scrub
- A progress bar you can drag, plus skip buttons. The skip distance is yours to set: 5, 10, 15, 30 or 60 seconds.
- Speed, 0.25x to 4x
- Step it up for a lecture, down to follow something tricky. The extension remembers the speed you like on each site.
- Volume to 300%
- For recordings that were quiet when they were made. Works wherever the browser lets the extension read the audio, which covers YouTube and your own files.
- Subtitles
- Captions are drawn inside the pop-up. Most browsers leave them behind in the tab. If a video has none, load your own .srt or .vtt file — pick it or drag it onto the window — and nudge the timing earlier or later if it runs out of step. You can also show the page’s own captions and your file at the same time, one above the other.
- A line at a time
- Shift with the arrow keys moves by whole subtitle lines rather than a fixed ten seconds, and R puts the line being spoken on repeat until you have it. For a sentence you keep rewinding, or a language you are learning.
- Transcript
- The whole subtitle track as a list you can search. Click any line and the video jumps there. Save it together with your notes as one file.
- A-B loop
- One press marks the start, the next marks the end, and the passage repeats until a third press clears it.
- Sleep timer
- 15, 30, 45, 60 or 90 minutes, then the video pauses on its own.
- Screenshots
- Saves the frame you are on as a PNG in Downloads/Apne PiP. Sites that block frame capture are the one exception.
- Notes with timestamps
- Type a note while you watch and it is filed against that second. Click it later, in the pop-up or on the settings page, and the video jumps straight there. Export them all as a text file.
- Three sizes
- Small, medium or large on one tap, as well as dragging the window corner yourself.
- Several videos at once
- Chrome allows one pop-up window at a time, so rather than fight that, up to four videos share the one window as a grid. Tap a pane to give it the sound and the controls. For two matches, a lecture beside its slides, or a set of camera views.
- Back to the tab
- One button, or Alt+P, puts the video back exactly where it was in the page.
Picture
Behind the frame button in the pop-up. Nothing here is saved to the video; it only changes what you see.
- Crop to fill
- Fills the whole window instead of leaving black bars, for video shot in a different shape from your window.
- Rotate and mirror
- Turn a clip filmed sideways on a phone, or flip a selfie recording the right way round.
- Brightness, contrast, colour
- Three sliders, for footage shot too dark or washed out.
- One frame at a time
- [ and ] step a single frame back and forward, for reading something off the screen.
- Audio only
- Hides the picture and keeps the sound, for a lecture or a podcast you only want to listen to.
Sound
Each of these is a switch in the pop-up, and they stay on until you turn them off.
- Voice clarity
- Lifts the range speech sits in and trims the low rumble, for dialogue you keep rewinding.
- Night mode
- Evens out loud and soft passages, so an explosion does not wake the house after a whispered line.
- Mono
- Both channels into one, for listening with a single earphone.
- Left and right balance
- A slider, for a recording where one channel is louder than the other.
- Skip silence
- Speeds up the quiet stretches and drops back to normal the moment the sound returns.
These need the browser to let the extension read the audio, the same condition as the volume boost. On your own files and on most sites it works; where a site keeps its audio sealed, the switches have no effect.
While you are elsewhere
Each of these is a switch on the settings page, so you keep the ones you want.
- Carry on to the next video
- When a video ends, the pop-up does not stop and wait. It hands that video back to the page, takes the next one and keeps playing, down to the last video on the page, so you open the pop-up once and leave it. On a site that loads the next video itself, it simply keeps playing.
- Pop out on tab switch
- Leave the tab and the playing video follows you into the pop-up by itself.
- Keep playing
- Some sites pause a video the moment you look away. This stops them doing that while the pop-up is open.
- Resume where you stopped
- For videos over three minutes, the extension remembers your place and offers it back next time.
- Speed per site
- 1.5x on one site and 1x on another, remembered separately.
- Close when it ends
- The pop-up clears itself when the video finishes, if you would rather it did.
- Rules site by site
- One table on the settings page: a fixed speed for a site, no hover bar on it, or pop out automatically there. Useful for a work portal where a floating bar is in the way, or a lecture site you always watch at 1.5x.
- Continue watching
- The long videos you left part-way through, listed on the settings page with how far in you were.
- The parts you always skip
- Skip the same stretch on the same site three times — the intro, the recap — and the pop-up asks whether to skip it from then on. It learns from what you do rather than from a shared list, so it works on any site, and the list stays on your computer.
- Volume per site
- One site is always too quiet and another always too loud. Set it once each and it is remembered, the way the speed already was.
- Backup
- Save every setting to a file, and restore it on another computer.
- Right-click a video
- Choose Pop this video out from the menu, for when the hover bar sits over something you need.
- Subtitle appearance
- Size, colour, a shadow or a solid box behind them, and whether they sit at the top or the bottom.

Apne Player
Right-click the toolbar icon to open it. Keep its tab open, in the background if you like.
- Files
- Drag in video or audio files, or pick a folder, and they queue up as a playlist that moves on by itself.
- Screen or window
- Choose an app window, a browser tab or the whole screen, and it plays live in the pop-up. Chrome asks your permission first, every time.
- Camera
- Your webcam in a small floating window.
What it cannot do
These are limits in the browser itself, not things left for a later version.
- Two pop-ups at once
- Chrome allows one at a time.
- Full controls on an embedded video
- A video embedded inside another site opens in Chrome's simple pop-up. Chrome reserves the richer window for the top-level page.
- Protected video
- On services such as Netflix or Prime Video the picture cannot be shown in the full-control pop-up, so those sites now open in Chrome’s own pop-up straight away. You keep the picture; the extra controls are the part that is not possible there.
- Volume boost everywhere
- Where a site serves audio in a way the browser keeps sealed, volume stops at 100%.
Ready when you are
Install it, hover a video, and the rest explains itself.
