Bank Statement PDF to Excel Converter

Banks e-mail statements as PDF, but accountants need them in Excel for reconciliation, Tally import, GST turnover checks and loan CMA data. This converter reads a text-based statement PDF entirely in your browser (nothing is uploaded), detects transaction rows, and builds a clean table with Date, Description, Reference/Cheque No., Debit, Credit and Balance that you can edit and export to .xlsx or .csv.

How detection works

  • Each PDF page is read with pdf.js and text pieces are regrouped into lines by their vertical position.
  • A line that starts with a date — 01/04/2025, 01-04-25, 01 Apr 2025 or 2025-04-01 — is treated as a transaction; a second (value) date is skipped.
  • Trailing numbers are taken as amounts. Three numbers = debit, credit, balance; two = amount + balance; one = amount only. Dr/Cr markers and balance movement decide whether an amount is a withdrawal or deposit.
  • Lines without a date are merged into the previous description (wrapped narrations).
  • Opening/closing-balance rows are recognised so totals tally.

Worked example

Line: 05/04/2025 NEFT CR HDFC0001234 ABC TRADERS 85,000.00 2,05,480.00 → Date 05-04-2025, Description "NEFT CR HDFC0001234 ABC TRADERS", Credit ₹85,000, Balance ₹2,05,480 (previous balance ₹1,20,480 rose, so the amount is a credit).

Review before export

The summary shows total debits, credits, derived opening balance and closing balance with an automatic balance check (Opening − Debits + Credits = Closing). If a row was mis-read you can edit it inline, sort by date, and recompute running balance before downloading.

Scanned statements & passwords

If the PDF is a scanned image there is no text to extract; the tool tells you so and suggests downloading a text PDF/CSV from net-banking or running OCR first. Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked before upload. You can also paste CSV or tab-separated text directly — column headers like Date, Narration, Withdrawal, Deposit, Balance are mapped automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my bank statement uploaded to a server?

No. The PDF is parsed with JavaScript inside your browser; nothing leaves your device.

Which banks are supported?

Any bank whose statement is a text PDF with one transaction per line starting with a date — SBI, HDFC, ICICI, Axis, PNB, Canara, BoB, Kotak, Union, IDBI and most co-operative banks.

The tool says "scanned PDF" — what now?

Download the statement again from net-banking in PDF/Excel format, or OCR it (e.g. open in Google Docs) and paste the text.

Debits and credits are swapped on some rows. Why?

Some statements print Cr/Dr markers differently. Edit those rows and click "Recompute balance" to fix the running balance.
