IFSC Code Finder & Validator
The Indian Financial System Code (IFSC) is an 11-character code assigned by the RBI to every bank branch that participates in NEFT, RTGS and IMPS. A wrong IFSC can delay or bounce a salary, vendor or tax-refund transfer. Type a code here to validate its format and fetch the live branch record β bank name, branch, full address, city, district, state, MICR code and which payment systems (NEFT, RTGS, IMPS, UPI) the branch supports.
IFSC structure
AAAA 0 BBBBBB
- Characters 1β4: bank code (letters) β SBIN = State Bank of India, HDFC, ICIC, UTIB = Axis, PUNB = PNB, CNRB = Canara, BARB = Bank of Baroda, KKBK = Kotak.
- Character 5: always 0 (reserved for future use).
- Characters 6β11: branch code (letters or digits).
Format check: ^[A-Z]{4}0[A-Z0-9]{6}$. The tool highlights exactly which rule fails (length, letters, missing zero) before it makes a lookup.
Worked example
Enter SBIN0031254 β format valid β lookup returns State Bank of India, the branch name and address, MICR, and flags NEFT β RTGS β IMPS β UPI β. Click "Copy branch details" to paste into a vendor master or payment advice.
Merged banks
After the 2019β2020 mergers the IFSCs of Dena, Vijaya, Andhra, Corporation, Syndicate, Allahabad, Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank were replaced by Bank of Baroda, Union Bank, Canara, Indian Bank and PNB codes. Old codes return "not found" β ask the payee for the new IFSC printed on a recent cheque leaf.
Where to find your IFSC
On the cheque leaf (top or near the MICR band), passbook first page, net-banking account summary, and the RBI's official list. This tool uses the open Razorpay IFSC dataset derived from RBI data and remembers your recent lookups for quick reuse.
Bulk needs: for validating many codes in a vendor master, paste them one at a time here or use the recent-lookup chips to reconfirm the branches you pay most often.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the 5th character always zero?
RBI reserved it for future expansion of the branch code; every valid IFSC has 0 in position five.
What is the difference between IFSC and MICR?
IFSC routes electronic transfers (NEFT/RTGS/IMPS); the 9-digit MICR code printed on cheques is used for cheque clearing.
The lookup says "not found" but the code looks valid. Why?
The branch may be closed or merged, or the code mistyped (O vs 0, I vs 1). Confirm with a recent cheque or the bank.
Does an IFSC tell me the account holder's name?
No. IFSC identifies only the branch; names are verified through penny-drop / account validation services.
